Job Description

A K-12 school in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) for a contract position during the current school year (CSY). This role focuses on providing mobility training and orientation services to students with visual impairments, supporting their independence and safety both on and off campus.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement individualized orientation and mobility training programs for students with visual impairments.
• Assess student needs and adjust instruction techniques accordingly.
• Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to support student learning and mobility goals.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and program activities.
• Provide recommendations for adaptive equipment and assistive technology as needed.
• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and safety standards.

Qualifications:

• Certification or qualification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS certification preferred).
• Experience working with children in K-12 educational settings.
• Strong knowledge of orientation and mobility techniques for visually impaired individuals.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to develop creative strategies tailored to individual student needs.
