Position Summary The Certified Driver/CNA is responsible primarily for the safe, comfortable, and timely transportation of residents to and from the facility. This position ensures dependable travel for medical appointments, community outings, and facility needs.
When not actively transporting residents, the employee may perform basic CNA support duties within scope of practice.
Key Responsibilities - Driving (Primary Function) - Provide safe and timely transportation of residents for scheduled and unscheduled trips.
- Safely load, secure, and unload residents using wheelchairs, lifts, and mobility devices.
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, documenting findings as required.
- Maintain accurate transportation logs, mileage sheets, and appointment documentation.
- Ensure the vehicle is fueled, cleaned, and maintained; promptly report mechanical issues.
- Transport supplies, equipment, or materials as directed.
- Observe residents during transport and report any changes in condition immediately.
- Represent the facility professionally while driving in the community.
- Adhere to all safety, infection control, and DOT requirements.
Secondary Responsibilities - CNA Support (As Needed) - Assist residents with basic care needs when transportation duties are complete.
- Help with mobility, toileting assistance, or escorting residents as needed.
- Assist nursing staff with vital signs, hydration, or general observation.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and respectful resident environment.
- Report changes in resident condition to nursing staff promptly.
- Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Active Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license in good standing.
- Valid driver's license meeting company driving standards.
- Ability to maintain an approved DOT Medical Card.
- Successful completion of facility driver training modules.
- Ability to safely operate multi-passenger transport vehicles and wheelchair lifts.
Working Conditions Work is primarily indoors with regular driving outside the facility. Frequent interruptions and interaction with residents, families, and healthcare staff. May encounter emotionally upset or confused residents. May work beyond normal hours, including weekends and holidays.
Physical Requirements - Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and securing mobility devices.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and move equipment and residents-sometimes over 50 lbs.
- Ability to safely operate transport vehicles and lifts with residents aboard.
- Ability to manage mental and emotional demands of the role.

- Maintain clean, hazard-free vehicles and work areas.
- Follow all infection-control and universal-precaution procedures.
- Report hazards, incidents, or equipment issues immediately.
- Dispose of waste and sanitize vehicles daily.
