Job Description

A full-time Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) position is available in Columbia, MD, supporting K-12 students on a 10-month schedule from August through June. This role is offered on a contract-to-hire basis, providing an excellent opportunity to contribute to student success while gaining valuable experience within a dynamic educational environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized orientation and mobility instruction to students with visual impairments, enabling safe and independent navigation in school and community settings
  • Conduct individual and group lessons tailored to each students needs, both inside the classroom and throughout the community
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and family members to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with school personnel and families
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant state certification and licensing requirements

Qualifications:

  • Valid Maryland Orientation and Mobility Specialist Certificate for K-12 education
  • Active Maryland drivers license with reliable transportation for community-based instruction
  • Experience working with children with visual impairments in educational settings is preferred
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams
