Job Description

An educational opportunity is available for a skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to support K-12 students within a school setting in Renton, WA. This contracted role spans the current school year (CSY) and is integral in fostering student independence and accessibility through specialized mobility training.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess and develop individualized orientation and mobility plans tailored to students unique visual impairments.
• Teach safe and effective travel techniques using adaptive tools such as canes and technology.
• Collaborate with educators, families, and related service providers to integrate mobility goals into the students educational program.
• Provide training and guidance to school staff to enhance understanding and support of students mobility needs.
• Monitor student progress and adjust strategies to ensure maximal independence.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

• Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist or equivalent credentials.
• Experience working with children and adolescents in educational settings.
• Strong knowledge of visual impairment and mobility techniques.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and school teams.
• Familiarity with assistive technology and transportation options for visually impaired individuals.
