Job Description

A school in Seattle, WA is seeking an experienced Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to support K-12 students. This contract position runs for the full school year (CSY), providing specialized services aimed at enhancing students independence and mobility skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess and develop individualized orientation and mobility plans for students with visual impairments.
• Deliver direct instruction and training in safe travel techniques using appropriate mobility aids.
• Collaborate with teachers, parents, and support staff to integrate mobility goals into educational programming.
• Monitor student progress and adjust intervention strategies as needed.
• Provide guidance and resources to families to support travel skills outside of school.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Certification and experience as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist.
• Demonstrated ability to work with K-12 students with visual impairments.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate within an educational team.
• Knowledge of current best practices and techniques in orientation and mobility instruction.
