Job Description

An educational opportunity is available for an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to support K-12 students in developing essential skills for independent navigation and safety. This role is based in Tempe, AZ, and supports the upcoming school year on a contracted basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and evaluate students orientation and mobility needs to create individualized plans.
  • Provide specialized instruction to help students develop techniques for safe and effective travel.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to integrate mobility strategies into daily routines.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust interventions to meet evolving needs.
  • Maintain detailed documentation in compliance with educational standards and regulations.

Qualifications or Desired Experience:

  • Certification or licensure as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS).
  • Experience working with K-12 students who have visual impairments or related disabilities.
  • Strong understanding of mobility aids, assistive technology, and environmental adaptations.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Commitment to student safety and fostering independence.
