Job Description

A K-12 educational institution in Rockport, TX is seeking an experienced Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to support students with visual impairments. This contract position spans the current school year and offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the development and independence of children.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess and develop orientation and mobility plans tailored to individual student needs.
• Provide specialized instruction and support to help students safely navigate school and community environments.
• Collaborate with educators, families, and related service providers to integrate mobility goals into students Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
• Conduct ongoing evaluations to monitor progress and adapt strategies accordingly.
• Educate staff on techniques and tools to assist visually impaired students.

Qualifications:

• Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) or equivalent credential.
• Experience working with K-12 students with visual impairments.
• Strong understanding of adaptive mobility technologies and instructional techniques.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills to coordinate services with school personnel and families.
• Ability to maintain detailed records and provide clear progress reports.
