Position Summary

Facilitates the development of an environment in the residence hall that encourages growth and development in the lives of students through whole person discipleship.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position is primarily responsible to:

  • Testify to personal experience of salvation in Jesus Christ, affirm belief in the Universitys Statement of Faith, abide by and practice our Life Together Covenant, and both personally agree with and support the Foundational Documents of Taylor University.
  • Coordinate whole student educational, spiritual, and social programming for the residential apartments.
  • Assist with housing student placement.
  • Direct all administrative functions for the assigned residence hall, including conduct, building operations, budgets, maintenance, on-duty responsibilities, and emergency operations.
  • Offer support for residents in personal adjustment and conflict, intervene in crisis situations, and maintain current files of counsel, discipline, and informal advising sessions.
  • Supervise student staff of Personnel Assistants (PAs) and Discipleship Assistants (DAs); responsible for the election and training of Graduate Assistants, Discipleship Coordinators, Discipleship Assistants, and Personnel Assistants.
  • Remain available and visible to students regularly. Serve as a liaison between students and other administrators, develop rapport, and participate in hall and campus events.
  • Submit weekly, semester, and annual reports to leadership.
  • Communicate as necessary with the Associate Vice President for Student Development / Director of Residence Life regarding issues within the residence hall.
  • Contribute to faculty governance by participating in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Engage in professional development through conferences, articles, and presentations; participate in faculty promotion.
  • Support and develop Graduate Assistants working with Residence Life, including training in planning and operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • Masters degree in student development, counseling, higher education, or related field, required.
  • Experience mentoring and discipling college students.
  • Residence Life experience preferred.
Skills and Competencies
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to engage respectfully with diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Commitment to supportive and challenging relational ministry.
  • Team player capable of working independently.
  • Effective conflict management skills.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment.
  • Experience supervising student employees and counseling individuals on various issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities.
  • Problem-solving skills, including crisis evaluation.
  • Ability to design and implement social programs for residence life.
  • Availability to respond to emergencies; must carry a cellphone.
  • Valid drivers license and clean driving record; university van certification within one month.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.

  • Physical Demands: Moderate physical activity; handling objects up to 20 pounds; may require stairs; respond promptly to emergencies.
  • Work Environment: Live-in position with on-campus apartment; housing and meal plan provided. Presence required during specific events and periods, including vacations and weekends.
