Job Description

Description:

What We Do…

Children’s Theatre of Charlotte is driven in the belief that there is power behind simple acts of kindness. Throughout our work, staff, patrons, and community, we strive to spread kindness wherever we can and to encourage children to act kindly toward others. We are proud to be an organization where a dynamic mix of talented, committed, and enthusiastic people come together to do their best work.

Work with Us…

CTC is seeking energetic, motivated undergraduate students who are passionate about the power of theatre and inspired by our mission. Recognized nationally for our innovative theatre education programs serving preschool through high school, Children’s Theatre of Charlotte continues to shape young artists and lifelong learners. Our summer camp plays a vital role in this work, offering students—and the artists who guide them—a dynamic, creative, and rewarding summer camp experience.

What You Will Do...
Camp Counselors play an essential and rewarding role in creating a magical summer experience for our young artists. You’ll directly supervise campers ages 3–11 at ImaginOn or ages 5–11 at our satellite locations, helping ensure their days are safe, joyful, and full of creativity. As a counselor, you’ll be hands-on in the classroom, execute smooth and welcoming drop-off and pick-up routines, guide campers through snack time and post-care activities, and assist with light administrative tasks that keep our summer running seamlessly.

As an added bonus, you’ll have the unique opportunity to observe and collaborate with our professional CTC Teaching Artists—gaining insider insight into how theatre education comes to life. While you will report directly to the Education Operations and Administrative Manager and the Camps and Community Programs Manager, you will work closely with the entire education team. When you step into this dynamic role at one of the largest professional theatres for young audiences, you will gain hands-on experience supporting summer programs that serve thousands of children and teens each summer. You will:

  • Build real-world classroom skills by observing and assisting professional teaching artists, learning strategies for classroom management, lesson structure, and diverse teaching approaches.
  • Observe and assist teaching artists as they adapt instruction to meet the needs of different age groups and skill levels, helping shape curriculum and student experiences to meet varying student needs.
  • Grow as a future teaching artist by leading theatre games, activities, and aftercare sessions—applying what you learn directly with students of varying ages and abilities.
  • Receive training in inclusive practices , including strategies for supporting students with special needs, neurodiverse learners, and those who benefit from trauma-informed care.
  • Immerse yourself in a professional theatre setting , with opportunities to connect one-on-one and in small groups with Children’s Theatre of Charlotte’s artistic leadership.
  • Experience the creative process firsthand , gaining access to new play development workshops and readings happening throughout the summer. Be in the room where it happens!
Requirements:

Our Expectations…

  • You must secure and provide your own housing in Charlotte.
  • You must be able to provide your own reliable transportation to and from the theatre or the summer satellite camp locations.
  • You will be granted time off only for personal emergencies (illness, death in the family, etc.).
  • Compensation advertised is non-negotiable.
  • You must be available to commit to the timeline listed and available to work 40 hours per week.

What we’re looking for…

  • We are hiring for our main campus at ImaginOn and CPCC Levine Campus in Matthews.
  • You are a positive, proactive, enthusiastic, and energetic undergraduate student who is driven to help a child build confidence and develop life skills through theatre skills.
  • You appreciate and thrive when collaborating with other team members and value the feeling of commitment and accomplishment.
