Job Description

We're expanding our remote educational support team to include a qualified Sign Language Interpreter serving deaf and hard of hearing students throughout Ohio's virtual learning programs. This position combines advanced interpreting expertise with cutting-edge technology to ensure comprehensive educational accessibility.

Role Details

This remote position encompasses 37.5 hours per week providing specialized interpreting services for approximately 16-19 students across all educational levels from kindergarten through high school programs. You'll facilitate seamless communication access through virtual platforms while supporting inclusive learning experiences for students with hearing differences.

Primary Interpreting Duties

• Deliver real-time American Sign Language interpretation during virtual classroom sessions and educational programming
• Enable effective communication flow between students, educators, and multidisciplinary team members
• Provide interpreting services for virtual individualized education program meetings and family conferences
• Collaborate professionally with teachers of the deaf, audiologists, and speech-language pathologists
• Modify interpreting approaches to maximize visual accessibility and student engagement in online formats
• Support student involvement in virtual social activities, assemblies, and extracurricular programming
• Uphold strict professional interpreting standards, ethical guidelines, and confidentiality protocols

Student Population Served

Your interpreting expertise will benefit students across comprehensive academic curricula including mathematics, science, language arts, social studies, and specialized educational programming. You'll serve learners with diverse communication preferences and varying degrees of hearing loss requiring individualized communication access approaches.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) certification with minimum 3.5 score
• Two or more years of direct experience providing educational interpreting in school environments
• Advanced proficiency in American Sign Language with excellent English communication skills
• Proven competency in virtual interpreting delivery and online educational platform navigation
• Thorough understanding of deaf community culture, educational interpreting ethics, and developmental considerations
• Professional commitment to ongoing skill development and interpreting excellence
• Appropriate home office setup with professional-grade video equipment and reliable connectivity

Preferred Credentials

• EIPA score of 4.0 or above indicating superior interpreting performance
• Successful completion of written EIPA assessment demonstrating comprehensive knowledge
• Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or National Interpreter Certification (NIC) with written component
• Documented experience with virtual learning management systems and online educational tools
• Professional development in educational interpreting across elementary and secondary grade levels
