The Eugene Water & Electric Board is currently seeking a Water Treatment Plant Operator to perform a variety of functions pertaining to the efficient operation of the Hayden Bridge Water Treatment facility under general supervision. This is a rotating shift work position with shifts alternating every four weeks. Every operator will continually rotate through all the different shifts, which include day, swing, graveyard, weekends, and holidays. Shifts are 8 hours except for weekends, which are 12 hours. Water Treatment Plant Operator duties include treatment operations, maintenance, and State of Oregon and EPA approved water quality analysis. Maintenance tasks pertain to structures, pumps, chemical feed, and treatment equipment. The operator will utilize water SCADA systems to monitor and operate the plant and distribution system pumps and valves. Duties also require operational decisions about treatment, distribution system events, facility security, and laboratory WQ/Microbiological testing. The successful candidate will be following a comprehensive training program and manual that will teach all aspects of operating the Hayden Bridge facility. The training will lead to a treatment certification if you have other water treatment or distribution credit. The successful candidate will gain or continue developing knowledge of: Chemical and physical processes of disinfection, coagulation, and filtration. Chemical and bacteriological tests and approved laboratory techniques and practices. The starting wage for this position will be based on where the candidate fits into the job progression steps that are outlined below. The wage scale for the Water Treatment Plant Operator is $33.3014 per hour - $47.4379 per hour. This position is subject to the terms, conditions, and benefits of EWEB's collective bargaining agreement with IBEW Local 659, which includes an overtime rate of 2x the regular wage for all overtime worked and an annual HRA VEBA contribution of $3000/year paid by EWEB. Requirements as a Qualification & Progression: Minimum Experience: None Education: Post high school college-level course work with science-based credits in one or more of the following areas: water treatment, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, microbiology or environmental sciences. Desired Education: Associates degree in Water or Environmental sciences, OHA Treatment certifications. Equivalency: An equivalent combination of experience and education or on-the-job training may also be qualifying. Valid driver license: Yes Professional license or registration: None required to start. Obtaining Water Treatment Operator Certification Level 4 and a Filtration Endorsement is required for the Journey Level Water Treatment Operator. Must obtain a First Aid/CPR Card. Post-offer background check required: Yes Post-offer drug test required: Yes Post-offer physical / functional test required: Yes Apprenticeship or other education/training required as a condition of employment, progression or advancement: See steps to journey below. Water Treatment Plant Operator - Steps to Journey The successful candidate will start at the appropriate step depending on their qualifications. To advance to a higher step, they must demonstrate the skills or qualifications required of that higher step. STEP #1 Trainee hired - entry level. (Wage = $33.3014 per hour) STEP #2 Satisfactorily complete the six-month probationary period. (Wage = $34.8668 per hour) STEP #3 – STEP #9, Journey: One of the below items need to be completed in order to receive a step increase. These items can be completed in any order. Advancement to Journey needs to be completed within six years of hire date. (Wage = $36.4323 per hour for Step 3, progressing to $47.4379 per hour for Journey).
