Job Summary and Qualifications

Position Summary: The Wound Care (WC) Nurse, under general supervision, coordinates the clinical functions of the Wound Care Center. Working autonomously, the WC Nurse is responsible for evaluating/assessing, developing, organizing, and planning care programs. They also are responsible for ensuring efficient operations and directing the daily functions of the center. The WC Nurse collaborates with physicians, other nurses, and other appropriate hospital staff and directs the care of the patient’s wounds. The WC Nurse ensures adherence to the standard of care and best practices. While overseeing the delivery of patient care, the WC Nurse will adhere to clinical policies and procedures of the department.

The WC Nurse will ensure that all relevant data collection and use of data within the Hospital’s Program is conducted in accordance with professional ethics and is within the scope of RN licensure in California. The WC Nurse will work to develop appropriate policies, procedures, orientation, and competencies for onboarding staff. The WC Nurse will also enforce any policies or procedures. The WC Nurse will be responsible for aiding and supporting hyperbaric treatments. If not currently trained in hyperbaric treatments, the Nurse will need to complete training and demo competency within 6 month of employment. .

What you will do in this role:

• Must have a comprehensive knowledge of advanced wound care modalities, including but not limited to negative pressure wound therapy, skin substitutes, maggot therapy, therapeutic compression wraps/dressings, total contact casts, hyperbarics, etc.
• Must be able to effectively manage and direct other staff such as certified nursing assistant, coordinator, licensed practicing nurse, technicians, etc.
• Must work in an efficient and organized manner as to care for several patients at once while ensuring provider orders are carried out and passed on to other coordinating healthcare providers including but not limited to home health, infusion center, follow up referral visits, etc.
• Must be flexible to work inpatient wound care as well as outpatient wound care.
• Must be able to coordinate transitioning the inpatient wound care to the outpatient status, which includes working with case management, primary care physicians, staff nursing, etc.
• Must be able to accurately and completely document on all patients by end of business day, this includes encouraging and ensuring provider documentation is complete.
• Assess the patient's condition during admission and each scheduled shift, promptly identifying and reporting any changes in patient status.
• Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s), and ensure thorough and timely documentation of care administration in the patient's medical record. - Administer prescribed medications, monitor the patient for therapeutic response, and take appropriate action in the event of an unintended response to the medication.
• Provide exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests, proactively anticipating patient needs, and resolving them.
• Educate patients, families, and caregivers about the patient's medical condition, treatment plan, medications, possible side effects, and follow-up measures, ensuring complete understanding by translating complex medical terminology.

What qualifications you will need:

• 1 Year of Nursing Experience (required) 

• Associates Degree, Nursing (required)

• Bachelors of Science, Nursing (Preferred) 

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) (required)

• (RN) CA Registered Nurse License (required)

• Comprehensive knowledge of advanced wound care modalities, including but not limited to negative pressure wound therapy, skin substitutes, maggot therapy, therapeutic compression wraps/dressings, total contact casts, hyperbarics, etc
