Schedule:

Days in the summer: 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Afternoons in the winter: 2:00 - 10:30 - additional $2.25 per hour premium wage

General Summary

Under the supervision of District Equipment Supervisor, a Foreman and/or lead of Equipment Specialist III, performs a wide range of repairs, maintenance, and fabrication activities on KCRC fleet and equipment. Activities may include diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing malfunctions, and performing regular service of the fleet with fuels, lubricants, and tires, including yearly and seasonal maintenance.

Education/Experience: high school diploma or equivalent; with one year of vocational / technical training in diesel engines and/or off-road equipment. Three years of progressively more responsible mechanical maintenance experience or equivalent.

Knowledge/Skills: standard analytic, troubleshooting, and interpersonal skills. Welding competency. Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals. Professional development encouraged. General computerized literacy includes diagnostic tools and an aptitude for learning new software.

Physical: performs duties on a variety of surfaces - dry and level, steep, uneven and slippery. Climbs ladders or uses scaffolding to access work areas. Repetitively bends, twists, turns, stoops, stands, or sits with high and varying frequency or duration. Manually, and sometimes alone, lifts and carries 80lbs. or more (e.g., chains, pumps, mounted tires, salvage parts, inventory, materials, and equipment). Performs work while exposed to a variety of particles, fumes, and gases, such as vehicle and equipment exhaust, cleaning solvents, gasoline, and lubricants.

Other Requirements: a valid Michigan Class A Commercial Driver's license (CDL) with an "N" Tank endorsement and successful completion of a physical examination and substance abuse testing. Fork-lift, scissor-lift, and overhead crane permits. Responsible for the purchase and maintenance of personal hand tools.
