The Washington Post Features Department is seeking an industrious, organized professional with a strong interest in journalism and an abiding love of arts and culture to join our team as an editorial aide.

The work done in this role is foundational to the journalism we produce as a department. Our ideal candidate is curious, collaborative, driven and reliable. It's a job that requires the ability to juggle a long list of disparate tasks photo research, proofreading, project assistance, opening mail and answering phones but comes with the opportunity to hone feature writing skills while working alongside a team of writers and editors devoted to the craft.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, upload and fact-check credit information on images needed for stories across Features.
  • Assist with research and production in support of multiple newsletters published by Features.
  • Proof newspages of weekly print sections.
  • Assist with content development for multiple social media accounts.
  • Track and write short blurbs about local entertainment events.
  • Answer phones, manage general inboxes and reply to reader queries.
  • Assist writers and editors on various newsgathering tasks.
  • Attend planning meetings and maintain calendars of upcoming events.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of WordPress or similar content management systems.
  • Ability to track, manage and juggle multiple duties simultaneously.
  • The capacity to quickly pick up various technical systems necessary to publish content online, in print and on multiple social platforms.
  • A spirit of collaboration and an eagerness to learn from the 75 journalists working across the department.
  • High-level social media savvy.
  • Exemplary attention to detail and mastery of grammar.
  • Voracious appetite for pop culture, fine arts and media buzz.
  • Lively writing skills and a strong desire to develop as a feature writer.
  • A great sense of humor and creative mind that can contribute to the dynamic culture of our department.

This position is based in our Washington, D.C., newsroom.

The salary range for this position is: $42,300.00 $63,500.00. The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
